A new chapter

In 2019, for the first time, Andrea Pirlo trusted us to customize one of his favorite timepieces, the Submariner® model. Two iterations and a friendship later, he contacted us to carry out his “Ciottolo Azzurro Project,” a new and exclusive project in every respect: reworking his Aquanaut®. The challenge was to infuse an iconic design with the details and DNA we had carefully defined with Andrea Pirlo during his past personalization projects.

The starting point of the Ciottolo Azzurro Project was the blue “Azzurro,” a color that reminds Andrea Pirlo of the sea and freedom. Andrea wanted it to be deeper, more profound. He wanted to combine it with a skeleton movement. To meet Andrea’s challenge, it required an array of know-how: some parts of the caliber are beveled, others circular-grained, or satin-finished, to bring depth, delicacy and light to the timepiece. The project demanded all our resources — from the oldest savoir-faire to today’s cutting-edge techniques.

Dial
The dial bears an intense Azzurro blue with a 12/6 satin-finish. It gives the timepiece a timeless elegance.
Hands
The rose gold hands are polished and beveled by hand. They enhance the anthracite skeleton movement.
Strap
The genuine rubber strap is the signature of the Ciottolo Azzurro Project. Developed by the expert Rubber B, it took months of research to achieve Andrea’s Azzurro blue.

Andrea’s perfect combination of colors is the azzurro blue and rose gold, a fine blend. The blue inspires freedom, and the rose gold, the elegance embodied by him.

Balance Bridge
The piece is polished then beveled by hand, we have realized a round-off finish, a meticulous know-how requiring extreme dexterity, each angle of the bridge is worked in a semi-circle so that the light is reflected on each surface. It is then mirror-polished.
Barrel bridge
The piece is polished then worked for hours, rounded-off with a file then a buff, the gesture is precise and regular. Only expert hands can carry out this finishing, that give the bridge a rounded angle all over its surface.
Wheel bridge
The bridge is mirror-finished by hand, giving it a sleek allure.
Andrea Pirlo, The ArchitectThis is the third customization I’ve done with Artisans de Genève. They’ve become like a second family; they know me so well. For this new project, I wanted to keep the codes we had developed together in the past, the blue and rose gold, the skeletonized cut, by adapting them to my Aquanaut® model.
I’m a great lover of Patek Philippe and the Aquanaut® model, which reminds me of a pebble, the sea, and freedom. The artisans have worked on every detail with the most outstanding care. I can’t believe it, the colors, the finishing touches… everything… my personalization ultimately reflects me as a person, and my story.

Andrea wanted a skeleton version of his 324 caliber to be able to admire each piece through a different angle. We started by realizing a special cut of the movement and then reworked each element in the finest detail: from beveling to satin-finish and circular-graining, to give an harmonious allure. The final touch, the skeletonized gold rotor, brings depth and contrast to the anthracite movement.
